Mammary ductal ectasia is a benign breast disorder, a noncancerous disease. ductal ectasia happens when a breast milk duct widens and its walls become thick. This can lead to blocked ducts and to fluid build-up. It is common in pre-menopause women, but also it can occur at any age. It can occur in one or both breasts.

Symptoms of ductal ectasia:

  • Breast pain or nipple tenderness
  • Nipple discharge: usually thick, brown or green
  • Inverted nipple: the ducts behind the nipple became short and wide
  • Breast lump: generally, retro areolar lump

  • Surgery: the affected ducts might require surgical removal.
