How many types of cardiomyopathy?

There are 5 types:

  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy thick myocardium especially the interventricular septum, usually inherited associated with sudden death in young people. It affects about 1 in 500.
  • Dilated cardiomyopathy enlarged, dilated and weaken ventricle inherited in one third and may result from alcohol, heavy metals, cocaine use and viral infection like hepatitis c it affects about 1 in 2500 but it is idiopathic in many cases.
  • Restrictive cardiomyopathy stiff ventricles may be caused by amyloidosis, hemochromatosis, and chemotherapy for cancer.
  • Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia it is more common in young people.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (acute apical ballooning of left ventricle, broken heart syndrome) it caused by extreme emotional or physical stress, it is look like heart attack but with good prognosis, 1-3 % of the patient die in the hospital after their admission
