Root Canal Treatment - Dental Clinic in DRHC Dubai

Steps of root canal treatment:

When your tooth is diagnosed for root canal treatment, you can expect these steps of the procedure to perform the root canal procedure & relieve the pain:

X-Rays: Your dentist will take an x-ray to determine the extent of the infection & other factors involved like caries or cracks. An x-ray is taken for an accurate diagnosis.

Numbing the Tooth & Surrounding Tissues: The first step in root canal treatment is a local anaesthetic to numb the area and prevent teeth pain during the procedure. Your dentist will apply a local anaesthetic to make you more comfortable & a sheet of rubber called a “rubber dam” to keep the tooth dry & isolated. Local anesthesia is administered to make the treatment completely painless

Access Opening: The dentist will make a small hole through the crown in order to reach the root canals

Preparing the canals: The infected pulp is removed the root canals will be cleaned & enlarged to be filled after properly.

This step might take several sessions to ensure that the root canals are fully cleaned. Sometimes, your dentist might place medications inside the canals to kill any remaining bacteria. Your tooth will be sealed by a temporary filling in between the sessions.

Closing: Once the infected pulp is removed & the canals are fully cleaned, your dentist will seal the tooth with root canal filling materials along with final filling to replace the lost part of tooth structure & close the access opening. A crown is needed in most of the cases after root canal treatments specially for posterior teeth & depending on the extent of the damage which requires one more session to get the tooth ready for a crown.

Alternatives to a root canal?

When a root canal treatment is indicated & you decided not to go for the treatment, you should consider that a root canal treatment alternative won’t be very good.

The only alternative to a root canal procedure is removing the tooth completely which is less expensive on short terms but very expensive on long terms because you will have to replace it with a bridge, implant or removable denture which are not only more expensive than a root canal procedure but require more treatment time and additional procedures to adjacent teeth and supporting tissues.

Or you can leave the tooth & do nothing, but the tooth may eventually become un-restorable, more infected that might spread into other area causing serious health issues which may end up in tooth loss too.

So if your tooth is indicated for a root canal treatment & can be saved, it will much wiser to save the tooth by having the root canal treatment done.
