Contact Lens-Related Problems - Dubai Eye Clinic

Reduced oxygen flow to the cornea (Hypoxia):

Hypoxia is the most common complication of contact lens wear, especially for those who wear them for a long time. As the cornea has no blood supply of its own, therefore it gets oxygen only from tears and directly from the atmosphere. This can lead to the following symptoms:

  • Dry eye: Sometimes the contact lenses interfere with the normal hydration process of the eye.
  • Red eye: Due to the build-up of dirt and smoke particles on your contact lens.
  • Blurred vision: This happens when your contact lens is not clean or damaged.
  • Burning and itching: This may be a sign that you are allergic to contact lenses

Prevention for contact lens-related problems:

  • Wash your hands properly before putting on and taking off your contact lenses.
  • Rinse the case properly with contact lens solution then keep it dry and closed.
  • Soak your contacts in the proper type of contact lens solution, not with tap water, to avoid contamination.
  • Avoid using contact lenses when allergic or have eye infections.
  • Avoid sleeping with your contacts or wearing them daily for long periods.
