Dry Eye Disease - Dubai Eye Clinic

What is Dry Eye?

Dry Eye, also known as dry eye syndrome is a condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It can occur when your eyes do not produce enough tears or when the tears evaporate too quickly. A dry eye is one of the most common symptoms of blepharitis.

What can cause Dry Eye?

Several factors play a role here. Environmental conditions like dry air or exposure to wind and dust can contribute to the problem. Other causes include aging, hormonal changes, certain medications, and even prolonged screen time.

Since most of us use screens daily for long periods either at work or home, dry eye has become a very common disease. At our clinic, we can diagnose, treat or even prevent dry eye disease by offering you instructions.

What shall I feel?

  • A stinging, burning, or scratchy sensation with eye redness.
  • Halos around lights make it difficult to drive at night.
  • Mucus threads in eyes.
  • Sensitivity to light
  • A Foreign body sensation in your eyes.
  • Watery eyes, which is the body's response to the irritation of dry eyes
  • Blurred vision or eye fatigue

Can I prevent my eyes from dryness?

  • Stay away from sources that blow air inside your eyes like AC.
  • Position your computer screen below eye level so that you won't open your eyes widely. This reduces tear evaporation.
  • Avoid Smoking and stay away from people who do.
  • Take periodic eye breaks, after 20 minutes of using screens take a 20-second break to look at objects 20 feet apart.
  • Use artificial tears regularly (under doctor’s supervision).

Always remember, at our clinic, your eyes are in safe hands.
