Magnetic resonance (MR) defecography is a special type of noninvasive MR imaging test, where images with high soft tissue contrast and resolution are obtained at various stages of defecation.

- It produces detailed images during a bowel movement.
- Provides information about the structure and function of the rectum and the pelvic floor,
- Gives information about the pelvis muscles anatomy and shows the anatomy of the rectum and any pathology located outside it, which is not possible on conventional fluoroscopic defecography.
- Determine the cause of faecal incontinence, the cause of constipation, and difficulty in passing stools. pelvic floor disorders, pelvic organ prolapse or rectal prolapse, and rectocele.
