Magnetic resonance (MR) defecography is a special type of noninvasive MR imaging test , where images with high soft tissue contrast and resolution are obtained at various stages of defecation.

- It produces detailed images during a bowel movement .
- Provides information about the structure and function of the rectum and the pelvic floor,
- Gives information about pelvis muscles anatomy and shows the anatomy of rectum and any pathology located outside it which is not possible on conventional fluoroscopic defecography .
- Determine the cause of faecal incontinence, the cause of constipation, difficulty in passing stools. pelvic floor disorders, pelvic organ prolapse or rectal prolapse and rectocele.
- Provide information for surgical and treatment planning.
