Musculoskeletal or MSK imaging is a procedure that deals with taking images of the skeletal structure such as the bones, joints and the soft tissues around it for diagnostic purposes.

Different modalities in Radiology can provide different visualization and different results.

Usually it depends on the doctor and symptoms on which examinations you are going to have and in some cases, a combination of two or more imaging modalities or procedures may be required which include simple MRI, X-rayBMD/Dexa, CT-scan & Ultrasound.

In most cases it is in MRI that you will see the best differentiation between tissues in the body which can detect tears, sprains, micro-fractures, nerve compressions, inflammations, contusions, tumor growth, metastasis, bone marrow edema and other pathology that can be seen. It can also identify if it’s an old or new problem or simply trace the origin of the pathology.

DRHC MRI Procedure can include:

  • All Spines (Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar, Sacrum & Coccyx)
  • Upper & Lower Joints
  • Upper & Lower Limbs/extremities
  • Rest of the musculoskeletal parts of the body
  • MR Arthrogram
  • Whole Spine Stitching
  • Peripheral MR Angiography

Sometimes simple X-ray is more than enough and is very useful for some who need immediate visualization of the problem especially when your doctor suspects a bone fracture or dislocation from a very recent trauma.

X-ray is also used as a tool in follow-up checks of post-suregery patients with implants and in most cases of myeloma, x-rays are usually done primarily.

DRHC can provide digitally All X-ray Examination from head to foot and special Bone Stitching for the whole spine & limbs.

BMD/Dexa is also an X-ray examination in MSK but in a different machine and primarily to check the bone strength and detect Osteopenia or Osteoporosis.

In some cases after doing x-ray your diagnosis still may not be conclusive so a CT scan may be required which can provide more details.

Some patients also which are contraindicated with MRI are advised to do CT instead or sometimes both are done together since each can provide details which the other can’t.

DRHC CT-scan procedures include All CT-scan from head to foot with 3D reconstruction and multi-planar thin slice imaging with different windowing techniques.

Ultrasound is also used in musculoskeletal imaging since it can provide good differentiation between tissues.

With ultrasound, real-time imaging is offered, you can perform imaging while in motion or you can just have it simply at still and it can even be used as a guide for steroid injections.

It is simple, reliable and fast imaging to detect sprain, tears, mass, fluid accumulation and even blood flow.

DRHC can perform all musculoskeletal ultrasound including Doppler study and ultrasound guided injections.
