Breast Augmentation

  • Breast augmentation is a procedure that gives women the opportunity to enlarge and reshape their breasts with great success rate.
  • Implants are made of a medical grade silicone shell containing silicone gel or in some cases saline.
  • Special implants are also designed for breast reconstruction procedures following mastectomy (removal of the breast).
  • Under general anaesthetic, a small incision is made to place the implant behind the breast tissue. In some cases, the implant needs to be placed behind chest muscle rather than in front, but this is dependent on ladies body shape.
  • Any asymmetry existing prior to surgery will be adjusted but may persist after breast augmentation but this will also be discussed with you prior to surgery.
  • Breast augmentation is performed as a day-case procedure and recovery time varies from one patient to another, but we generally advise at least one week off work and limited activity for a further 2-3 weeks.
  • Gym activity and heavier lifting will be restricted for a longer period to avoid movement or migration of the implant, but most activities can be resumed after about 6 weeks.
  • It is required to have a bandage for 4 days and you need to wear a sports-type bra for one month.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

  • Breast lift or mastopexy – is a surgical procedure to change the shape of the breasts. During a breast lift, excess skin is removed and breast tissue is reshaped to restore firmness and raise the breasts.
  • You may choose to have a breast lift if your breasts sag or your nipples point downward. A breast lift will  also boost your self-image and self-confidence.

Breast Lift with Implants

  • A breast lift won’t significantly change the size of your breasts. However, you may consider a breast lift in combination with breast augmentation if you wish to increase the size of your breast.

Breast Reduction

  • Women with large breasts suffer pain in their shoulders and back as well as difficulty in dressing.
  • Breast reduction surgery is the treatment of choice for many conditions such as macromastia (over-sized breasts) and breast ptosis (sagging of the breasts). Any asymmetry existing prior to your surgery may be adjustable and may persist afterwards, but this will be discussed with you prior to your surgery.
  • The procedure involves the removal of excess fat, skin, glandular tissue, and suspensory ligaments to produce a proportionate sized breast, aesthetic contour and appearance. The nipple is generally also re-positioned upward. The operation can also be performed on males to address gynaecomastia.

Breast Reconstruction

  • Breast reconstruction is achieved through several plastic and reconstructive surgery techniques that attempt to restore the breast to near normal shape, size and appearance following mastectomy (surgical excision of the breast).

Nipple Reduction

  • Both men and women may consider nipple reduction surgery if they find that the degree of nipple showing through clothing is too prominent. The degree of nipple shortening or flattening is based on patient’s preference.

Gynaecomastia (male enlarged breasts)

  • Please read the information in Breast Reduction section.
